- do not be bound by any doctrine
- do not think the knowledge you presently possess is changeless; be open minded, truth is found in life not merely in conceptual knowledge
- through compassionate dialogue help others renounce narrow-mindedness or harmfulness
- always be aware of suffering (the existence and causes of) in the life of the world
- do not accumulate while others have not; share
- do not maintain anger and hatred - understand the nature of it and what caused it
- do not lose yourself in external excitements/activities
- do not say words that can create discord
- be truthful without having something to gain; have the courage to speak out against injustices even when doing so may threaten your safety
- do not use others for personal gain or profit; take a stand against oppression and injustice (especially you religious communities!)
- do not live with a vocation that is harmful to other living beings; do not support companies that deprive others of their well-being; select a vocation that helps realize your ideal of compassion
- do not kill or let others kill; protect life, prevent war
- respect what others have but prevent others from profiting and suffering
- treat your body with respect; sex should be an expression of love and commitment; be aware of any future suffering that may be caused; respect others' commitments to one another; be aware of the responsibility of bringing life into the world and meditate on the world into which you are bringing new beings
